Topic tags/keywords: question oak base cabinet top

Trying to work out a design on a built in bookcase cabinet. I will need to build a base cabinet top from red oak. It will measure 25” wide x 109” long. Just trying to think of the best way to construct this top. Solid wood or plywood with solid oak trim around the outside. Any ideas would work the best for me ?

I built my cabs out of birch plywood and then finished off with hard wood, red oak banding on the face frame and the plywood shelf bands. It worked well for me. My length was not quite as long as yours, but it I think it would have worked. I used biscuits for joining the cabs. You can see my one and only on my project page.
I was happy with mine, but I am a beginner compared to many others on the site.

I think A1Jim, an LJ on here has a lot of experience with built in bookcases.
