Hi Guys,

So I want to buy a planer and a jointer and I am new to woodworking but I came a across a a brand new Shop Fox jointer and 15 inch planer on craigslist and the guy only wants 900 buck for the pair. The price seems to good to be true but what should I look at if I am going to make this purchase. Also I am wondering if they are hot and he wants to unload them. I don’t know

Here are the models

Thanks for your help

That’s a pretty good deal. Call and talk to him.

What type of questions should I be asking? I know this is proberly overkill for stuff that I do but as my Dad said you can never have too much overkill on tools.

You need to ask “where do I bring the money?”

But I’m wondering if they are hot too. You are looking at about 1/3 street price and that’s before shipping? Proceed cautiously is my advice. Casually ask when he bought them? Maybe if he has an appropriate answer he’ll have manuals and receipts?

I have a shopfox 1701 BS, since 09, I like it, it does what I want when I want for the things I use it for. I don’t have a lot of experience with other brands or bells and whistles, kinda looks like Powermatic, Maybe the same manufacturer.

I have a very similar jointer made by Delta. It is a good machine.

If you’re worried about them being hot, I’d feel it out by talking to him. Maybe they are stolen (though how the hell would you do that?) or maybe they belonged to a dad that recently passed. We have pretty good BS detectors, so see if it passes the smell test. If it does, get down there fast with a truck, a friend and the money.
