Topic tags/keywords: lamp

So I built this lamp about 2 years ago. I want to build another one for the wife’s b’day.

You think I can find the magazine article I took this out of?! No. I looked thru Fine Woodworking’s website, and came up short.

Does anyone else recognize this lamp, and can you tell me what magazine had it?! It had this tricky interlocking dovetail that attaches the four main uprights together, providing a space for the electrical wire to travel.

Sure would appreciate the help!

You’re probably right – I used to get both. I tried searching both those magazine’s websites, and came up short!

I believe it was in Woodsmith #133 (Jan 2001). I hope this helps.

I’m glad that I was able to help, but I couldn’t have done it with Dave pointing me to Woodsmith.

Well, just finding out where I saw it was a big help. Hopefully, I can find a copy somewhere now!

TopamaxSurvivor, no, it’s made of some paper or paper-like material. I got it at Target.
DaveR,
thanks again!

DaveR (or anyone else),

If you were planning on scanning the actual article from the issue, please hold off – I was able to get a hold of them, and get the PDF of the article!

Still appreciate very much the SU rendition!

How do those dovetails lock the post together?

OK, it’s not a “dovetail” joint :-)) I don’t see why a straight rabbet wouldn’t work. thanks.

Just to report in, I have successfully cut the dovetail joint, and glued it up, worked just fine. I REALLY made sure that i had the right “settings” dialed into that router bit – you actually have to cut one part 5/32s” deep! Fussy! But, it works. Gluing up now….will have pics in a few days!
