Hi….. I am working with a plantation teak (more than 20 years old) that has been kiln dired. when I surface thelumber at the end of the piece it seems that it has like a stain (pictures attached).... do you have any idea why? is this normal?

I don’t know, but was it stored standing on end at some time with water flooding in around it??

i’ve never seen teak do that but it does look like it soaked up something thru the endgrain.. could be a sealer used 20 years ago.. unless you can stain to match, wasting a single board ft of teak is scarry at the current prices.. i suggest you bundle it up and send it to me.. or maybe not

something has obviously caused it to mark however long ago I don’t think it’s fungus maybe it’s oil in the wood.If it had been caused by water I am sure it would be dry by now does it smell funny.?Alistair

Actually it does not smell. I have to agree with the teak prices…..what prices have you seen around? I have seen prices around 12 USD per bft for plantation teak. regards
