I am sitting at my computer and when I stare out the open door into my parking area, there is a small bird that keeps fluttering around the side mirror of my pickup. It then flutters around the window as if to want to get in. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Ron, I spent 33 years as a wildlife biologist, so I can say this with confidence. It is the start of mating season for the bird. It see’s it’s reflection in the mirror and window and thinks it is a rival male. It wants to fight or drive off the other male. Sometimes they will knock themselves senseless that way.

My Suburban mirrors has bird droppings all over them from robins taking roost on top, fending off imagined male competition they see in the mirrors, in reality themselves. I hate it.

Who amongst us has not on occasion jumped head-first into a large mirror to take out that shady character there giving us the evil eye?

I would usually defer to a wildlife biologist but having recently watched Hitchcock’s The Birds … Do NOT go outside to investigate.
