That title sentence was an awesome thing to type. My first grandson was born today to my Stepson Nic and his significant other Amy. Introducing Aiden Nicholas Samuelson, 6 lbs. 6 oz. or .624 kg. Mother, Father and Grandmother are all doing well. Pictures to follow.

And congratulations to you, Douglas! Like I said when announcing the arrive of grandson number four, if I know how much fun grandchildren were, I’d have had them first! LOL

The plan is that they will be living about 50 miles away. I hope to have plenty of spoilage opportunities.

Neil, first thing after I got to scoop him up I checked his grip. Looks to be a righty. Probably ought to give him a couple of years before I get him his first set of chisels. But I think the birdhouse kits in a sack will be something we can get right on.

Grandmother tells me he was very awake and attentive to his environment right out of the chute (I possibly have been hanging out with Tom Angle a little too much – what with the cowboy talk). So maybe he will be the furniture designer.

Thanks all for the kind welcome to young Aiden and encouragement for old Grandpa

I think the precedent is to post a picture of feet…so, no picture, didn’t happen…we need to see feet. Oh, and with all kidding aside, congratulations!

A wise man once said that grandchildren are your reward for not killing your kids. Congratulations, this is only the beginning. There’s nothing a grandson to be your buddy, your chum, your pal and constant companion. I sincerely wish you as much joy as I’ve had with my five grandkids.

If I have my way he will be the new Mozart of the ébénistes, veneering up demilune tables before he is five. We may have to come study with you together.

Thanks again all. Soon as I get out of my workduds and get into a set of overalls I will get the little fellas picture up here.

Doug, I’ve been away and missed the email notification. This is wonderful news! As I read the congratulatory posts above it reminded me of both my grandfathers. My parents were relatively young when I was born so I had the advantage of spending many of my formative years with both of my grandfathers. I’m lucky enough to still have my grandfather on my dad’s side.

I was exposed to both sides of the fence you might say. One was a professor and one was a farmer/rancher/horse trainer. I can relate to your associations with Thomas because grandfather on dad’s side is very much the cowboy. At the same time, I got my woodworking genes from my mom’s dad. I digress. This just brings back may memories. I hope the best for you and yours and a hearty congratulations!!! Enjoy this time as much as you can.

(I may have missed it but we needs some pics grandpa.)

Jeff,
Thanks for the comments and the reminiscence. My folks started late in life having kids (what with WWII Dad was 30 when my sister was conceived and 38 by the time I popped up).

Both of my Grandfathers were deceased before I came along, although I have a long and involved and heartening Tale of the Supernatural involving my maternal GrandDaddy Clyde. Suffice it to say that I have had no doubt of an afterlife from the age of four. I will be largely winging it on the Grandfatherly behavior, although I did get to witness my Dad go all mellow with his grandson Morgan (my Sis’ boy). It’s just plain strange how one day it’s a pregnancy and the next day there is this new person who inspires strong hopes and aspirations for good in those who receive him. A very rare blessing that I am thankful for having witnessed. Hope I get to be around awhile for this little guy.

Caliper, The thing about being a grandpa with spurs is that there is one granddaughter who thinks she has to have one of my horses. Not to mention going to barrel races and rodeos and …........but she’s granddaughter #1 and has spent a lot of time with Poppie. You’ll learn all this soon enough, Doug.
