I certainly hope I’m posting this in the right place..I’m brand new here and don’t want to offend. You see, I’m not a woodworker, but I am a lover of art and talent. I guess I’m a bit of a woodworking “groupie”, if you will. :) So, the deal is, I have been on the hunt for an office desk for the past year – at least. Everything I’ve seen has been so cookie-cutter and non-original I had given up my search until I found this website. My search has informed me about what I’m really looking for. Because my space is small, I don’t want a traditional square desk. I want a round desk with a 36” glass top to “lighten up” my small space. I also know I want a deep brown stain or very dark wood (I’ve seen this referred to as espresso or cappuccino). The glass top is easy to get, which leaves me looking for interesting pedestals, bases or legs. I’m not a boring person so I want something that’s different and unique. I’m also not a millionaire, but I believe artisans should be compensated (with money) for their work. This table will serve as my desk where I plan to write books and be outrageously creative. I want to look at it everyday and be inspired. And, admittedly, I want people who see the desk to say, “Cool desk!” so I can talk about how the desk was made by a real woodworking person…anyway, this might sound like utter nonsense to you, but all of this is really important to me. At this point, I’m looking to work with someone who has something in their shop that might fit the bill or someone who would be willing to create something…well…stunning. Other than the information I’ve given above, I don’t know much about what I want…other than I’ll know it when I see it. I do tend to like items that look like contemporary/modern meets Moroccan or Indian or Asian or “global”. I’m not really a Louis XIII kinda gal :) For example, I think the base on this table ROCKS: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/15748 and this is cool looking: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/15560 and this is SUPER cool: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/12137 To be clear, I’m not talking about barter here (not that there’s anything wrong with barter), I do have a bit of cash to spend. :) If you think I’m asking for a miracle, feel free to tell me so, but it never hurts to ask. Sorry to make this so long, but I figure the more information I can give, the better. Thanks! |
