Jim.... looks like the OP has been on LJ for the past 2 years…. lol… sorry…

Dave – I’m surprised you weren’t offered any money/similar – maybe this is the new scam technique – take you off to private, and get more private info on you that way (starts with personal email/email addres…)

ignore, and stay away from replying to those – Dave, and anyone that gets those.

Ditto, got one through craigs list on a tool I was selling…seemed real as could be…asked all the right questions etc. till it came down to the end…he was going to mail me a casheirs check, wait for it to clear, then they would “Send a moving company to pick up the saw”

I just got the exact same message, just after reading this, so I came back to post this. Yes, definitely a scam I would say. Even misspelled cooperation the same way, so it was copied and pasted. LOL.

My son got a spam similar to the one Don mentioned. same set up. He was selling something on Craig’s List. They send a check, which will cover the shipping costs, and want you to send the shipper money through Western Union.

Since my son didn’t send the money, the guy started threatening him, with physical violence. The email was full of misspelled words, and it was apparent, English is not his first language.

The fellow overnighted a check, via UPS, using a stolen shipping account number. Since several states are involved, and terroristic threats were made against a minor, I believe the F.B.I. has been brought in by the local police.

This guy will not be bothering people for too much longer, I’m sure, as he really wasn’t too bright.

If you read the scam warnings from Craig’s list, they mention, never send money through Western Union to the buyer.

They have lot of information on protecting yourself, and it’s worth reading.

Also, don’t “follow” links sent in emails (eBay/paypal/etc) as a general rule – these might be linked to scammers websites that might look identical to the original site – but in effect are used to get your information.

Man- now you guys have depressed me. I was hoping it was a rich widow that wanted to buy all the furniture I could make. LOL

As for the Craigslist scams, I have been contacted a few times on them. Most of them I just ignore, but the last one I strung along for some time. Never did recieve a check, I was hoping to as I have a buddy who works for the FBI and was going to turn it over to him.

Its sad in this great day of the internet, where so much information is shared, that there are people that are always looking to get over on somebody else. Guess thats the world we live in now.
