Topic tags/keywords: question cherry hutch

I’m building a small hutch. It’s about 36” wide. It’s made of cherry and will have a natural poly finish to match the rest of the kitchen I made. I’m in a quandary about a good style for the top of the hutch. I suppose it should match or at least complement the rest of the kitchen design. I’m not sure about what to do and only want to do it once.

Here are some shots of my kitchen design.

And here is the hutch progress to this point. The doors and drawer will match the kitchen ones.

Here are some rough examples of top shelves for hutches. Ours will be open, without doors. The hutch i’m making is just a place for the coffee maker and toaster and maybe a bread cutting board. It’s not a formal one for plate display like some people do.
Any Thoughts on this?

Personally, being a simpleton, I rather like something along the lines of number two.

I build my wifes hutch from the plans from Finewoodworking and modified it slightly.

I must be a simpleton also. No. 2.

Number 2 unless you just want it to be totally different from the kitchen cabinets, but since you are matching the doors and drawers I assume you want them to match.
