Topic tags/keywords: jig question

This is just a thought that I have been toying with. I have a 1/2HP electric motor and would like to build my own drill press. I have searched and searched and searched the internet for plans or even ideas but have come up dry. I’m just curious if anyone out there has any ideas.

In years gone by there have been after market, bench top devises that a drill motor is clamped to and it becomes a drill press. I have my doubts about the accuracy of such a devise but… I have seen the Super Guppy fly!

Look up David Gingery’s books He made all kinds of tools from cast aluminum using a little foundry that’s easy to make.

Greg, I know this isn’t exactly what you were looking for since I only mounted a drill in a slider to make it work sort of like a drill press, but someone had commented on my project about a home made drill press using the same sort of mechanism. I don’t know if this will help give you any ideas to work with but here is the link to my project.
