I have a Stanley claw hammer that belonged to my dad. He passed away in 1977. I remember as a kid, back in the early sixties, not to use his claw hammer for anything other than nail driving. He was very protective of it.

It’s a Stanley SteelMaster, 20 oz, with the metal handle and rubber grip. With the abundance of knowledge here, can anyone tell me, or point me in the right direction, as to what year Stanley started putting metal handles in their hammers?

I’ve searched this site and about worn out Google to no avail.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think it’s great that you have, and cherish, your Dad’s tools.

I don’t see it in the 1953 catalog, but I do see it in the 1958 catalog (doesn’t mean they weren’t introduced in the interval)
