Lathe tool rest keyway/guide bar keeps bending out of shape.What is the problem?

Keyway for an old cast iron Ryobi wood lathe keeps bending out of shape.(pictured)Toolrest wont slide freely.Tried removing it and squeezing it flat with a bench vice then applying some paste wax and it worked well for a while,then it bent even worse.The only thing I can think of is that from the headstock to the tailstock there is not enough support so the keyway begins to bend.

Any solutions other than replacement? Lathe pictured below

Maybe you could drill and tap for a couple of extra machine screws.
