Help!!! I am trying to run a 3/4 inch wide dado with a 1/2 inch set up. That is all my TS can handle. I need the dado to be centered at 8 1/2 inch. I am at a loss as to how to set it up. I am building a display shelf for SWMBO. It is 18 1/2 inches tall by 12 inches wide. I waas thinking of just making the center shelf 1/2 inches thick. But I am not sure I have the cash to get a 1/2 inch thick piece.

Thanks for the help

Rick

You could just rabbet the 3/4” shelves to 1/2” to fit your dado.

You could also make 2 passes with the 1/2” dado blade. Just move 1/4” after the first cut.

Gary is right. You could also turn the piece end for end after the first pass and do it again to be sure it is centered first. Then measure it and rabbit the shelf to fit.
