I open up many posts now to find that when I click on the blue underlined words which are in some posts, such as my teacher told me etc.Now all of them when opened go immediately to advertising around a British bank.Haven’t the bankers done enough to damage our lives? seriously this is not pleasent or acceptable to me.I can no longer read others posts properly without being invaded with this garbage .I am sorry this is a new low in lumberjocks as far as I am concerned. If you log in that should go away.

Yea, stay away from those blue words. They take you were you don’t want to be.

called ad-blocker
when my puter was better
(before it took a dive)
i had it and it works great for not showing tha ads

someone more knowledgeable
will give better advise than i

The laser-sharp focus of the advertising is interesting, and a little scary. As I’m now looking at my screen, I’m seeing an ad for camel pull toy and cricket xylophone plans from Rockler.

I designed both and published them with Woodworker’s Journal !!!

I wonder if they’ll give me a break on the price? :-)

I actually enjoy the ads. I wonder if the folks who complain about trash ads know that they’re based on their browsing history?

I agree with Patron… Ad Blocker works wonders AND Speeds things up TOO!
It works great… It blocks Advertising…
You can disable it on any website that you would LIKE to see advertising… it’s very flexible.

Google “www.adblocker’... PICK YOUR BROWSER and very quickly install it…

I love it!

It’s a fact that you are being targeted. Probably much more than you even realize.

Case in point: I saw a cute picture on Facebook one day of two dogs carrying a long stick.
One had the middle of the stick in his mouth and the other dog was carrying one end.
There were labels on each dog. The one in the middle said “Branch manager” and the one
on the end was “Assistant branch manager”.
I saved the picture to my iPhone. No comment or any other action at all.

The next day, every job search site I had accounts with had postings of new job offers for me.
They were for Branch manager and assistant branch manager positions; hundreds of them.

One other free service to try

Just like adblock, but it will also stop any redirects from happening. It will alsoblock any trackers that you might want blocked, as well.

I don’t think that this is something that you can pin on LJ – it sounds like someone using your computer clicked where they shouldn’t have and you’ve now got a rogue application installed in your browser. Check your applications/extensions and uninstall anything that doesn’t look right.

I don’t mind the ads to the sides and understand the need. However, we can and do regularly put hyperlinks to items that add to the discussion. Now you have basically hijacked comments to make it look like I put the hyperlink in. I got bit once on that and learned. I have to admit when I saw some of my posts done that way and when you click on it it takes you to something totally unrelated it really ticked me off. Bad form folks bad form!

Crank49 just cranked out an idea w/o even realizing it: Say I need a job. So I decide what kind of job I want, and I look for a cute animal picture that’s labeled with the position I’m going for, then save it to my phone. Wait a day, then do a job search. Bingo!

Regarding the ads on this site: I use NoScript. Not ad block, but it works well in that regard. Set it to allow only What ads?

I understand how ads support this site that I really enjoy and learn a lot from. My question is: does anyone know if those running the website can tell how many users are blocking ads?
