My old ShopSmith bandsaw, on its own floor stand for years is getting a little worse for wear and it isn’t the bandsaw I would like it to be.
I do want a better one, but I can’t think about the top-notch machines in the thousands of dollars. I am a retired, old person on a budget.
So what are the recommendations for a better band saw that would be easier for me to afford?

Sub – $1000.00, please!

Hi Don,

hands down – sub $1K is the Rikon 14 inch Deluxe BS in my opinion.

You have a lot of wiggle room under $1k in the used market. I had an 18” that I got for $250 and it was in good condition. If you are looking for a 14”, the old Delta was a lot of saw and usually can be had in the sub $200 range. You just have to keep your eyes on Craigslist and have the cash ready to go when there is a tool you need.
