My Delta lunchbox planner started making some weird noises. It doesn’t make noises when I’m actually planning boards. But when it is running and not cutting it makes a loud clunk/squeeling noise. I tried oiling the bearings….but it still does it.

Belt is most likely the problem. Can you feel vibration associated with the sound and any particular part of the machine.

Unplug it, turn it on the side where you can see the rollers. put a light weight oil on the outside of the rollers where the bearings are. Be sure to blow all the dust out first.

Plug it in and let it run and see if that stops the clunking noise. You may have to go through the process more than one time. If it doesn’t stop then you have another problem, usually a problem with the rollers or the cogs.

Also, open the side where the cogs and chain are and check to see if you have a cog breaking or a chain breaking. You might want to lubricate the chain too.

Usually the oil on the rollers helps. Be sure to clean off the rollers while you have it where you can get to them.

I have one of these and one day it started screaming while just running (not cutting) I checked it all
over and decided it was a bearing going bad. I haven’t used it lately. Just keep using it and if it is a bearing
the noise will increase, and by turning it overr by hand check the rollers for roughness, tofind the bad bearing.
