I am starting this bedroom suite from wood magazine, link below is just the bed. The set is going into a guest bedroom.

http://www.woodstore.net/plans/furniture/beds/364-Traditional-Bed.htmlroom.

Does the headboard look too tall to you? I think it would look better if it were a bit shorter, maybe 4 inches or so. In the plans the headboard legs are 52” tall and the foot board legs are 26”.

Would it look weird if I made the head board legs 48” tall? Is there a proportion between the head and foot board I should stick too.

Thanks for the advice

This LINK may help you. By the way your link is not showing the project.

I think the OP’s link was supposed to be: http://www.woodstore.net/plans/furniture/beds/364-Traditional-Bed.html
Personally, I think taller looks better. If you wanted it 4” shorter, I don’t think that’d be a problem.

That is the plan, thanks for correcting my link. I posted that from my phone and something on the link went wrong.

I don’t know why is looks too tall. I think i am going to knock off a few inches.

Follow the plans EXACTLY, or the fashion police will storm your house and haul you away… never to be seen again!!!! They may even come after your family and close relatives depending on how egregious the deviation is..

Seriously though.. it’s your house, your bed, your time, your work, your build, your choice. It don’t matter squat what others think.. it’s what YOU think and what YOU like. If it looks too tall to you, make it shorter. The plans are just to give you a starting point., so just do it like you want!

Cheers,
Brad

PS: I routinely ask my wife her opinion on a design, and then promptly ignore it and do it how I wanted to anyway (and she NEVER even notices!!!!).

It looks too tall to me too, sort of out of proportion somehow.

You should make it to suit your self and your tastes. I think the taller headboards have gone a bit out of style. One advantage though is that they give you a nice place to mount a reading light at nice distance, if you read in bed.
