I bought some 4/4 incense cedar for some rolling barn doors I plan to install in my master bedroom. They’re rough sawn and I want to keep that rustic look and smell but I want them to be preserved as well. What kind of finish or preservative should I be looking at? Thanks!

any preservative or sealing will block the aromatic odor. Leave it unfinished to retain the odor but then the color will fade quickly.

The odor will go away after a while no matter what. I live in a log home i built with red pine and a lot of eastern red cedar for hand railings. I dont smell the wood anymore. Oil based poly will retain the fresh cut red look.
