I’ve been thinking about getting a hollow chisel mortiser & am considering the Woodtek 138-224, which got a “Best Value” from FWW. Does anyone know if anyplace sells them other than Woodworker’s?

TIA

Dan

I’m not sure..I bought my 20” disc sander from them way back when, and it’s been awesome.. I like woodtec.. I hope and pray their quality hasn’t changed since my last purchase.

I have a multico Hollow Chisel Mortiser I was thinking of selling..do they even make them anymore?

Thanks for the replies, I thought maybe it was their house brand. In the review from 8/05, the Woodtek is listed as selling for $320, that was ~3.5 years ago, but I was still surprised to see Woodworkers now lists it at $430. I was hoping maybe someone had it for less.

I saw the Steel City one on sale, I’ll look into it in more depth. One thing I like about the Woodtek is it has a vise in addition to the hold down, which seems better. On the other hand, I’ve never actually USED one of these, so maybe that’s not too important.

Dan,
Again, NOT trying to tell you which one to buy, but as I said, I love my steel city mortiser. Expanding wings for over size pieces, very well designed way to change bits, and the wheels to hold your work, also double as a micro adjuster to slide your wood down the table. All in all for $269.00, a pretty good deal.

Don, yeah I was just looking at it on their site, it looks pretty nice. I see instead of the vice the Woodtek & General have, it has a couple rollers you position to hold the piece against the fence, which seems as good, if not better.

I also see the $60 rebate expired THREE DAYS AGO ;-(

Just my luck…

Man, that sucks, to bad you do not live near eastern Oklahoma, there is a Woodworking tool distributer here that is dropping the steel city line, he has a new one in the box for $200. If you want, I can give you his web site and see if he ships.
