Hi folks,

If anyone has a working motor from the Harbor Freight 34706 12×33 lathe, let’s make a deal. Mine has a problem and I’d like an exact replacement. If you have upgraded or don’t care for the unit, let me know please!

Those motors are notoriously bad.. what is the problem you are experiencing? From what I can gather, it’s a 1700RPM thing with a 5/8” shaft and a groove on the end for a circlip. I’ve seem where some people have gotten so fed up with replacing the motor (under warranty, multiple times) that they swapped it out with a DC motor like that from a treadmill.

The motor was fine. I was wiring a reverse switch into it, but since it’s totally-enclosed, I had to drill a hole in the housing to run wires out for the switch. And of course I slipped and ate up a couple of the windings with my drill bit!

The shaft is a common size (16mm) but very long with two grooves for circlips and a long key as well. On top of that, the motor is mounted via the motor end cap itself, and two motors I have are just a hair too big to accept the end cap. There’s just so many unique aspects that I know it won’t be worth it to track down a replacement.

Since everyone hates the dang thing, I figure someone will want to make a deal. :)

I replaced the one on that same lathe with a direct replacement ordered from HF. Less than $100 to my door if I remember correctly.
