oil is the back bone of north america boys, without it we wont survive, it sounds bad i know but we need our oil reserves. if these electric cars come to be a everyday reality our economy will be worst than it is. we just need to find a way to make it cleaner for our future. besides there’s nothing like good old american muscle

If every American drove that we would need 800 Nuclear power plants.

I wonder how long the batteries will last before they need to be replaced?
Also how much they would cost to replace.

7) How long will the battery last?
a. Battery life is dependent on many factors, including; mileage, age, temperature extremes, and charge cycles. In general you should expect a Model S battery to have a useful life between 5 and 7 years, but proper care can result in a 10-year life.

I’ve kept up with this company also. They have a sports model that is a beast. At $49K it can be a savings in the long term. Last I checked (prior to 4/15/09) there were no tax incentives on this purchase.

Price is still a little too high but this is probably the nicest looking electric car I’ve seen. Designs like this will definitely help sway people towards electric. Tyson, I see what you’re saying but I disagree. Phasing out oil needs or at least minimizing it should be a priority. We need oxygen more than we need muscle cars.

Yes, its still pricey, but don’t forget to factor the savings on gas. Assuming you drive one of these for 5 years, you would probably save $10,000 on gas alone.

I’ve often wondered how the batteries perform in our extremely cold climate here in Northern MN.

I know the old lead acid batteries don’t work as well here.

nice to see they came out with a Sedan now, and mass produced… not bad.

I like the fact that it’ll make use burn less oil, but in exchange we’ll create a bigger overload on the power plants – I just wonder how it all balances out

at 49k each for the sedan, I would think big companies would to lease these for executive fleets. I’d be interested in a off-lease with about 30k miles on it & a 100k mile warranty. .. like my ole Lexus.

It is a beautiful car. I wonder about the batteries. Not how well they perform. Have we figured out what to do with them when they no longer hold a charge. So many times in the past we rushed to a solution to an old problem only to create a new problem even harder to deal with. So does any one know if we have the capacity to recycle the volume of dead, highly toxic batteries the Tesla and all the Hybrid will be generating?
