I have a Craftsman Band saw model 119.224010. The predecessor to the current BAS350.

Tensioning blades wider than 1/2” requires a super grip on the tensioning knob. Furthermore there is no tension quick release on this machine.

I looked at the tensioning knob and how it interfaces.

I discovered that a 3/8” extension will fit in the hole perfectly. So I drilled a hole in the extension and epoxied a section of a #10 bolt into it.

I bought a cheap ratchet from HF and now I can tension and de-tension with ease. As a bonus the ratchet matches the color scheme of the band saw!

I have a very similar model craftsman that I had the same problem with… until now anyway, good idea.

nice modification to a really undervalued 14” bandsaw.
