Hello guys…
You can have fun at me to your heart’s content!

I bought this chuck to replace the lousy one on my PC Drill press:

Installing it is easy… My question is: how do I “open” it to insert a bit????
The spindle is attached to the chuck but it turns too….

Thanks for your help!

Not familiar with that chuck, but I’m pretty sure the spindle should not be spinning in the taper. Sounds like you need to remove it, ensure the taper is clean then re-seat it properly so it doesn’t turn.

To open it the drill needs to not spin when you turn it by hand. Think of a cordless drill. When you tighten and loosen it the drill motor does not spin so the chuck will loosen or tighten. There is a spanner available that will hold the spindle while you turn the chuck.

OK guys – I got it.
Once installed in the DP, I realized I needed to turn clockwise to open the jaws, not counterclockwise.
Good night!

I was looking at that chuck and would like to know how well it works.

Does it turn easily to open and close it?

Does it tighten enough for both large and small drill bits?

Yes, it work very smoothly. Mind you I dont have much experience in this field, but I am quite picky and I like how it works.
I still have 10th of runout though… Waiting for a tech to come and take a look at the DP itself.
Brand new PC… very disappointed….

Have your say...
