Trying to plan a kitchen remodel. When it comes time for the laminate floors, should I go wall to wall or install the base cabinets and only cover the open floor space. Was thinking there might be problems with some appliances fitting if I only cover the open areas. Thoughts and comments please!

Burat,

You got it. If you just go in the open areas you will have to be real careful to make sure any built-in under the counter is going to fit.

I would also ask you to take a hard look at a laminate floor in a kitchen. Make sure the laminate you select has a thick wear layer. I would suggest you looked at some engineered wood floors. There are some available in the smaller thicknesses like a laminate. But, IMO laminates are way over sold in kitchens. The kitchen is one of the highest traffic areas in the house. A thin veneer laminate in a bedroom… probably ok.

Good Luck on the project.

Marty, did some more checking and ceramic tile seems the best way to go. Now all I have to do is . . . get off the lazy butt and get started. Sometimes getting a 66 year old body moving is harder to do than the job at hand!! ajb

Absolutely do the entire area! Never can tell what the future may hold for perhaps replacing some of those appliances.

If they don’t fit exactly then you’re in Deep DOO Doo!. ...LOL..
