I’m building a set of bunk beds and need approx. 4” bolts to fasten the top safety rails to the header and footer. I found the bolts I need, however, they’re in the U.K. http://www.strictlybedsandbunks.co.uk/bed-bolts-m8-x-100mm-threaded-pack-of-four

Also, would really like them to be dark in color rather than gold.

After searching the web for 2 hours I’m at a loss. I’m asking you guys to share where you shop for hardware. I usually order everything from Rockler and Amazon but neither have anything like these.

Also, what would you call these? The U.K. website calls these “Bed Bolts”. When I use that term I get more U.K. sites popping up.

Thanks guys!

Do they have to be exposed?

Bill,

Maybe they don’t have to be but I’m not sure how else to do it while keeping them easy to breakdown. I’m kinda following the design of another set of bunk beds that used matching rail fasteners and safety rail screws.

Each safety rail will have 2 wooden dowels and a screw coming through the outer endboard to secure it.

How would you do it?

Here’s an image of the bunk bed I’m following. You can see (maybe, kind of small) the bed rail bolts and lag bolts have matching heads on them. Where can I buy those?

Thanks SuperCubber, those are great for the bedrails, what I need is something to fasten the safety rails. I think I found what I needed though. I just got back from Menards with some flat head cabinet screws. I’ll use those for the safety rails which will create exposed screw heads (I got black).

To mount the bed rails I’ll need to use concealed mounts to prevent a mismatch of the exposed screw heads with the safety rail screws. Probably these since it’s a bunk bed and I don’t want to take a chance of the top bunk seperating http://www.rockler.com/bed-rail-connection-system

That’s a good plan.
