Topic tags/keywords: question tip trick walnut process how to help

Hi everyone,
I am making a floor standing mirror. The frame is complete and I now want to create a double rabbet for the mirror and back to fit into. I’m still pretty new at this so wanted to ask a question on process before I jump in and do it incorrectly. Should I be scraping/sanding the mirror frame down to get ready for finishing before I create the double rabbet, or should I create the double rabbet and then prepare for finishing, or does it matter? Thanks for your help.

I’d say do the prep work for finishing after the project is complete. That includes your rabbets. Everytime I jump the gun and try to sand and prepare a project for finish, and then have to finish routing or fitting, it gets scratched and I have to sand it again. I look forward to seeing your mirror.
