Topic tags/keywords: humor oak ash cherry walnut saw sharpening

So, yesterday before it started raining , I went to a wood dealer and bought some wood for up coming projects. I got some Ash, Walnut, Cherry and white oak. I see now why so many projects are made from cherry instead of walnut. By golly it’s not cheap or at least not here. I bought a CAD print / plan for an old handsaw sharpening vise from a guy that had bought an old one and created a measured drawing that I hope to use to reproduce it. I will keep a photo diary of the project and if it works out I will post it here when I am done. I am planning to buy the hardware and blade, from Blackburn and make myself one of the Roubo resaws. Why? Just for the hell of it. I would love to have one of those things just for the pleasure of saying I own one , even if it proves to be to much work for an old man to ever use it. Wish me luck I let you know what happens (if it’s good)

Be sure and keep us posted on how the project comes out….I’d be interested to know what your final results are…..You are correct in your assumption about wood….It is getting extremely high, and everywhere….I try to keep a good supply on hand, and I too have a hardwood dealer just up the road, so he gives me a little break on my cost, since I’m a steady customer….No such thing as cheap wood anymore…..or anything else for that matter.

Yes, wood costs us a bunch. Like everything else we like to do.
