Anyone have experience with Porter Cable 4200 Dovetail Jigs? Thinking of getting one

I have a 4210 (If I remember right) with the half-blind template. I also bought a Porter-Cable router with it, since my cheap Skil router couldn’t hold a constant bit depth. Once you have set your bit properly and as long as you follow the instructions to a T, you’ll get great looking dovetails. I used it to make replacement drawers for my daughter’s POS dresser out of 1/2” plywood after the old drawer fronts were falling off and the drawers themselves were falling apart. It worked great. One thing to keep in mind at least with plywood is to use a sacrifical board on the vertical board as you cut, because depending on where your dovetail ends up, you’ll have a lot of splintering on the ends. I don’t think this would be a problem with most hardwoods. I plan on buying the through dovetail jig in the near future.

I have this jig with several additional templates (mini-box joints and mini-dovetails, etc). It works very well once you get the hang of making the proper adjustments and get the bit depth set right.

Thanks for the tips. I went ahead and got the 4212. Now all I have to do is find the time to play with it
