So hello all! This is my first post, trying to get into the world of woodworking, and for my first project ever, i’ve decided i’m going to build a counter top/work surface for an office remodel we are doing in our home.
So i’m wanting to build a surface that is 8’ x 24” that is 3-4” thick.
My thoughts were that building it as a “solid” surface would make it way too heavy, so i was thinking i needed to build it as more of a frame with a top and bottom surface.
We are wanting to make it kind of a “floating” counter-top. One side will be attached to the wall supported by a lip along the wall, screwed into the studs, and the corners will probably be supported with metal legs.
I’m not really sure of where to go though as far as techniques or materials i should use, as i am very much a novice woodworker in every sense of the word :)
Any help or direction would be extremely helpful! Thank you!
