I really hope you will read this and help us out by sending in your old glasses.Imagine giving the gift of sight .

Thanks in advance for helping to make a difference .

David resides in Ohio but several times a year travels the world, specifically on mission trips.

As an eye doctor travelling with an International group called Helping Hands (www.hhmm.org),
David has participated in missions to Ecuador, the Philippines and Peru.

“I am really looking forward to this opportunity to serve the poor and help them improve their eyesight.”

At the end of this month David will be embarking on his first mission of 2015, back to the Philippines. His group is always in need of slightly used glasses, reading or prescription, which they carry with them and use to help these people with improved vision.

Now that Charles has his ‘new’ glasses, we have quite a collection of reading glasses we will be sending to David to take with him. We invite you to do the same. Please, if you have old reading or prescription glasses lying around, won’t you send them to us so we can get them to David?

In a recent email David wrote, “Charles, feel free to send me any used glasses that you and your friends have… they will be used again by someone less fortunate somewhere around the world.”

You can send these glasses to us and we will ship them together to David. Mail them to:
2821 N. Valley Pike
Harrisonburg, VA 22802

Sorry Charles, this is the first I’ve seen of this post. I imagine there are a lot like me that may have not seen this yet due to the time of day. I think there are those who you have helped at least who would like to pay you back in this way. I have seen nothing but praise for you and your willing ness to help. I think you have posted suggestions to some of my queries. I have no glasses to give because I don’t wear any. Please reconsider.

Not sure how fast you expected results…..seems the post goes up at 10 til 3 on Tuesday afternoon to the Skill Shareing page, while many hobbiests and others are at work….. and 90 minutes later you quit LJ? I would have given it til morning anyway, not just 90 minutes.

I think it is a great program, I am still wearing my first pair of glasses, but am very sorry to see you go.

Same here as above Charles, I was notified at 3:50pm est. but didn’t check my email til just now and I see all this I’m not sure when you actually posted this, but I think Lumber Jocks has had a few problems lately with posts getting delayed. As far as glasses go, Heck ya I’m sure we have a few extra pair floating around our house. I’ll see what I can dig up and get them out to you!

You have never seen me ask for help for myself , nor would I , I do well , But helping others is one of the biggest joys of my life, I am truly blessed, I just like to “pass it on:”

I will be watching the mail

Well charles, I’ll see what I can do. I’m at work at the firehouse until Friday morning. I’ll also see if my parents have something as well. So I may not get anything in the mail til the weekend. If that’s not early enough I’m sorry.

Ummm.. the way the post was worded along with the address to send them to, I’m not sure why any kind of response was needed (or even expected) other than going to the post office. Or why a lack of response would provoke such a reaction in such a short period of time.. While I would gladly send in any old glasses if I had any, I didn’t feel any need to say “sorry, don’t got any”. Go figure.

Cheers,
Brad

It would be nice if people were more worried about the less fortunate here in the U.S. or your own country, take care of our own and we have a full time job. Don’t let the door hit you in the backside on your way out.

I agree totally uncalled for and way off base ,just the kind of comments the flag button is there for.
And so I do flag with pleasure.

Flag away, kinda figured you for a flagger anyway, you don’t like what someone says and the gods get angry. Well the way I see it, if you’re going to leave, leave, don’t post crap like that then wait and see if everyone is going to cry in their milk and beg you to stay. Have fun.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion right or wrong.
Charles has been a great help to all of LJs members and has asked for nothing in return ,except for a request in helping him help others. Charles is a kind helpful giving man and is a very good friend of mine and I always stand by my friends. I can see how I would be peeved if I was Charles, when after doing nothing but good for all the members here plus being a member for more than 7 years and he did not get one comment for some time.
Enough said, lets get back to woodworking
