I know Wayne would say check Craig’s List, but they do not always have what you are looking for. Big tools can be a problem. Maybe there is a cabinet shop going out of business in your area? -- Bill, Turlock California, http://www.brookswoodworks.com |

Hello, gentlemen - You can always count on the people that use this site to jump to help out. I’ve met nothing but quality people any time that I’ve asked a question here. OK, starting from the top: Hawg, I live about 5 miles north of the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia, not too far from the PA turnpike. I hope that helps. If you wouldn’t mind telling me, I’d appreciate knowing what you charge for barnwood. For a long time I’ve wanted to build a post-and-beam addition to our house, but brand new timbers are out of my $$$ reach. Maybe we can make a deal. Bill, I always treat the thoughts of His Wayneness with the greatest respect. Actually, I’d already checked there and come up with a possible. If I can get the guy to call me back maybe that might work out. The cabinet shop idea is a good one that I probably wouldn’t have thought of. A neighbor of mine is a contractor, maybe I’ll pick his brain. D16, I live about as far east as you can get and still be in PA. I do have a friend that has family in Wheeling, though. Maybe we could work out a three way deal if you and I could agree on price. Thanks in advance for the help guys. -- JWB |

I found a great deal on a jointer that was either 6 or 8” but it was in Phoenix, az. They wanted $180.00 and only used it for one job. Any money you would save would be lost in shipping, though. If you want to pursue it, email me and ask for the phone number. And I don’t think I have the type of barnwood you need to frame your room. I think we still have some sections of oak T&G flooring, but shipping would be a lot. God Bless, -- Saving barnwood from the scrapyards |

Hey, Hawg - I think that you’re right. I’d probably choke on the shipping. Just out of curiosity, though, is this a bench-top or a stationary model? If you want to give me the number, I’ll call them. It wouldn’t be reasonable to have you doing my legwork. Thanks for the tip. -- JWB |

Good grief, Hawg, I hope that you can get cold beer a little closer than that!! Thanks for the lead. OK, Karson, show me the jointer. It would be great if you had a picture that you could e-mail to me. My address is johnbarrett1507@comcast.net. -- JWB |

Dock, do you still want to sell that old Craftsman jointer? I am looking for something to joint/plane short pieces of oak and poplar, and don’t want to buy new of I can avoid it. I am in Richmond, Ohio, which is 40 miles west of the Pittsburgh Airport. What city in WV are you in? I have been afraid to purchase used for fear of buying a piece of junk from a less than trustworthy individual. My hope is that someone on a site like this (like yourself) would be on the up-and-up. Please let me know. -- John R. - Richmond, Ohio, "With God, all things are possible" |
