Topic tags/keywords: scroll saw

I just wanted to say hi. I just found Lumberjocks.com today and I can’t believe I didn’t know it existed. I actually thought I had finished the internet :). I just spent an hour looking at all the projects you guys have posted. There is some nice work there.

I spend my woodworking time these days running my scroll saw blog. I have been a scroller for years and I still enjoy it very much. I design almost all the patterns I cut. I’m more of a geek than a woodworker so I enjoy making the patterns at the computer with Corel Draw.

If you are a scroller or would like to be please stop by my blog The Scrollsaw Workshop

Thanks for such a nice site and I look forward to being an active member.

Thanks guys. Tony talk about innovative, The band saw box (enigma) on your site is the most beautiful band saw box I have ever seen. I thought I had seen some nice band saw boxes but you take it to a whole new level. You have gotten my creative juices flowing. I’m heading to the workshop looking for some nice exotic to make a band saw box…

Welcome aboard Steve – I have a Hawk scroll saw that probably has less than 5 hours use on it (I’ve had it about 5 or 6 years). One of these days I’ll have to get with it :-)). Look forward to seeing your projects.

Steve,
I have been lurking on your site for the last couple of months. Your email updates have kept me on top of the new additions to your BLOG. My latest scrollsaw project was a picture of my Dad which is complete except for the glass in the frame. Your site is what prompted me to give it a try. I used Jasc PaintShop Pro 7 to make the pattern. Since then I have had the opportunity to use Corel Draw 10 for a pattern of my wife’s grandmother, and do find it easier to produce the picture patterns. Now I am trying to decide if CorelDraw X3 will buy me anything that 10 does not have.

I think one of those bowls shown on your BLOG, made with two contrasting woods, will be my next project.

Thanks again for sharing your information!
John

Hey Steve,

Welcome to LJ! I had spent a fair amount of time on other woodworking sites, but honestly, always felt like an outsider. Not a member of the elite bunch. At LJ, everyones contributions are appreciated, their work recognized, and nobody is left out. It’s like a big Woodworking Love-in. Just what the internet needed!

Hi Foneman

I would probably not spend the money to upgrade from Corel Draw 10 to X3. Scroll saw patterns only require a very small subset of the tools in Corel. I use Corel Draw for many other things than scroll saw patterns so I did upgrade. If that would be the case with you then it might be worth while.

Thanks to the rest of you for the warm welcome.

Thank you for your kind words, yes bandsawn boxes are fun to make, almost as much fun as your scroll saw work.

welcome!!
I have tried my hand at the scroll saw and enjoy it but know that I have a lot to learn to use it properly and effectively.
I’ll be watching over your shoulder in hopes of picking up a tip or two :)
