I found a 14” JET bandsaw on CL. Looks to be in good condition.
The owner told me it hasn’t been used in a few years and doesn’t need any repairs.
I think he said it has cool blocks but no fence.
I know JET isn’t highly regarded but if I could get it at the right price it will probably serve my purposes for now.
He is asking $400 so I was thinking of offering $250 max.

That is an older model (pre-white color) that appears clean and cared for. $250 would be a fair offer.

Yes it is not worth what he’s asking IMHO although to be honest it looks as if it has been well cared for and in no way abused. There are people who do abuse their tools and machinery.I am not one of them as having a nice woodshop is half of the fun for me anyway, as sometimes when I don’t have the strength to do much I just sit quietly in my shop and tidy and re a range things a little .I wish you well with it Joel you deserve it after all don’t you? There is nothing wrong with a Jet. $400 is to much for a 14” bandsaw. $250 or so is probably about right.

I just sold a Delta 14” with fence, mobile base, cool blocks, new blades and Iturra spring and tension knob for 500. I think 250-300 would be a fair price without fence and with stock tensioner.

Thanks for all the advise, I can go ahead and make an offer and feel it will be fair for both of us.

I went to look at it.
The guy selling it spent a lot of time showing me all the parts and explaining how to adjust it.
He is the original owner and seemed to really care about his tools.
I came with $300 cash and knew that offering $250 wasnt going to fly and might be an insult so I just said I have $300 cash will you take it. He said no, I need at least $375 for it. So then I explained how I had researched bandsaws and how JET is good but not great and $300 was a fair offer and I could buy a brand new Grizzly fior $550.
He suddenly said ok I need it out of here, I’ll take the $300.
So the base is in my garage and rest of it is in the back of my van and will remain there until next Saturday when I can get help to lift it out.
Without all the information I got here I am not sure I could have got it for what I did, so thanks!

Great looking BS! I don’t now much about the COOL BLOCKS. I had a shop smith bandsaw that had them and didn’t care for it

Joel, I’d not be disappointed at having gotten that beauty for three Benjamin Franklins.

I was forced to watch recently, as a 14” rikon came and went for $250 on my local CL. It was a base version, but came with three blades, two sliding bevel gauges and the fence was not missing. Basically the same saw you have here. Well at least I can be happy for you! (Heck, even for the new owner of that rikon)

So often in my area, people overvalue WW tools. Hand tools, not so much, but they don’t come up often, but band saws of any worth seem to come with near retail asking prices.

Good score Joel. It does “Not Quite” rate a “you suck” but it’s certainly a good saw at a good price. Should last you a long time.
