....into the modern world.

Our sons gave us a Kindle fire HDX and Fire TV stick for Christmas.

It’s a wondrous toy, for sure. I’m still discovering all the neat things it can do.

While messing with it, I found that You Tube has the full set of Sketchup for Woodworkers tutorials. Now I can set up the Kindle and watch while working on the computer. Much handier, plus I can fling it over to the TV if I need to see it in a larger format.

I think I’ll even take it to the shop for other You Tube stuff.

It’s a bright new world out there

Ain’t it great!!

Our TV has an Internet connection and a built in connection for YouTube. I subscribe to YouTube channels with the computer and then pull them up on the TV.

Lew, I guess our TV does that, too. Just found it out after I was setting up the Fire stick. I knew it was a “smart” TV, but all we ever did with it, up to now, was watch what Dish network sends us. Never actually explored all the TV’s capabilities. Heck, we just put the TV remote in a drawer and only used the one Dish gave us.

Candy, you and me both. Now I have to have THREE remotes available.

Randy, after my revelation I started the the tutorial on the TV but went to sleep. The TV is not handy to the computer so, the Kindle thingie will be a great help. If I am following along on it and using the program on the computer, I might stay awake.

That’s my plan, Randy.
Now we can add another skill to our already enormous skill set. (insert sarcastic icon, here)

I am so minimally able to use Sketchup that it is embarrassing. There’s some great stuff out there in the digital world, but I guess I have finally reached the limit of the hard drive between my ears. Something has to go out before something new can come in. I guess I’ll have to stick with the old drawing board. By the time I get a Sketchup drawing finished, I can damned near have the project built. Getting old sucks.

Woodbum, I agree but, the guy in the tutorials does it really fast.
And yup, getting old does indeed suck.

That’s cool Gene. I just got a dad/blue ray player for Christmas that connects to wifi and my iPad. I can play YouTube videos on TV. Like you said, it’s nice to put it in the tv for more interesting and long videos. I did that with the Snodgrass bandsaw video. Welcome to the new world.

Thanks for the welcome, Bill. I’m still walking around with wide eyes and a gaping mouth. Like a kid in a candy store. Every time I turn around, there’s something new that catches my eye.

I like the line about the harddrive between my ears…...When I was in basic training in the Army, my drill sargent once told me I didn’t have anything between my ears but a bloodclot…...Sometimes I think I still have it….!!!
