The 1/2 hp 3450 rpm motor in my ancient joiner burned out. I’m getting a 1hp replacement. Choices are Marathon, Weg or Packard. Anybody know about brands?

Baldor is the best, but that’s not on your list.

Marathon makes a good motor. I didn’t know WEG made motors. I have a VFD they make and its pretty nice.

Pakard is an old motor, it was bought by GM in the late 30’s early 40’s and is now called Delphi. I have a little 1/3 HP packard and it is the quietest motor I have ever used.

Look for motors on craigslist. As long as it has the same mounts, you should be fine.

Isn’t this a wonderful website? I absolutely love it. One of my favorite activities is just browsing through the awesome projects some of you have done. Everyone one is so helpful & friendly & knowledgeable. Thanks for the replies. I got a motor new $15 – through eBay – after a lot of frustration had it tested, it was defective, but the company is bending over backwards to make it right, hence the 3 brands. Some day I’ll get up the courage & post some things I’ve made in my hi tech workshop, which my wife insists on calling the floor of our garage…..

I’d be inclined to go with the Marathon of those 3.
