Topic tags/keywords: question cedar

So I know an acquaintance who has some cedar wood for sale that I was interested in buying to build an outdoor shed out of. However, I do not know if the wood is that great of quality, I mean it looks good to me but i don’t know much about lumber. Secondly, I want to know how much I should pay for what he has, as I do not want to get ripped off since it is just going to be used for an outdoor shed.

I have attached pictures that I took of the wood so you can see what I am considering.

Thanks, Sebastian

Hello, around a year ago, when we first started woodworking, we bought cheap cedar fence board , when planed down they look nice ,which is something you might consider. Now, I realize that’s not what your looking for , but as long as the lumber your considering doesn’t have many major split, also cedar is a pretty soft wood, if the price is worth it you might want to get some treated 2×4. I definantly wouldn’t put any cedar less than 3 quarters of an inch supporting weight, also cedar splits easier than 2×4 when building

Ok great thanks for the response. My application is slightly different as i plan on using most of these trunks for weight bearing support beams and if i have left overs then maybe milling them down to boards. Do you happen to know what an average price for seven 10’ long and around 28” circumference cedar trunks would be, so i know an offer to make?

Have your say...
