Topic tags/keywords: central machinery old lathe live center mandrel

I am a young turner, with some experience turning pens. My lathe is a very old Central Machinery lathe. Not like the one they have at HF right now. Lately the live center is turning (no pun intended) into a piece of junk. It stops and then smokes because of the friction with the mandrel. It has ruined one mandrel so far, and I don’t want to ruin another! Help anyone??

You should replace it. I’m not sure what other answer you are looking for.

Well, yes. That’s my plan. But my lathe is so old, I cannot find a live center to replace it with!
