I’ve been supplementing my furniture business with some furniture repair. I get quite a bit just from word of mouth and CL.
Some chairs that come in have been beat up pretty badly and I was wondering what is a good glue for this kind of work. I had one last night, it’s a padded dining chair with cloth and leather seat. The seat is attached to the front legs and the back of the chair continues to the legs and is attached to the seat with angle wood which fits into the back with a kind of spline connection. They are only a millimeter deep and the customer had tried to glue it once before.
I got the splines clean, but some were in bad shape so I knew gluing wouldn’t be enough. So I used screws and dowels.
I used Titebond II and clamps which seem to work well, but tends to dry brittle and any movement can break the connection even though it’s held tight with screws and dowels.
Is there a good furniture repair glue I can use?
