Hi guys, I just made a post, a reply to what I started a while ago. MINI LATHE EXTENSION. Please help me post pictures of this. I don’t have picasa, photo bucket etc.

I also need to know how you guys drill large holes in endgrain. I have burnt up several bits. My Irwin wood bits, spade bits, forestner and even a 15/16” steel bit. I am trying to drill holes in end grain for some pepper mils. Hope U guys can help.

First, sign up for a photobucket (or other supported service) and upload your photos there (it’s free). Here is a link to assisting you in the steps:

Secondly, you may be running the lathe speed too fast or advancing the center on the tail stock too fast. When I make pepper grinders, I drill all the holes running the lathe at 400 rpm. The diameters range from over 1” down to 1/4”. The larger holes are with a forstner bit.
