Topic tags/keywords: ponderosa pine cabinet

So I came across this little freestanding cabinet in a shop and really liked the arched top. Since I wasn’t willing to pay the top dollar that was being asked for it, I went and bought some wood to build my own. I decided to make it out of cheap-o ponderosa pine from Lowe’s (I’m on a tight budget!) I’ve got the entire cabinet built now and I just can’t seem to get a close match to the finish on this. Now I know that I will likely not get it dead on, but does someone have a suggestion on how to make ponderosa pine look like that? Maybe I should have used a different wood!

Looks like it was orange shellacked and then some sort of satin finish coating over it Could be just the age of the wood.

I’m betting it’s a matte poly on it.
