Have been reading and viewing several posts with cutting boards made out of purple heart. Never used this before and wondered where most of you are getting this wood and what I should expect to pay. I plan to build some of those cutting boards for family and love the look contrasted with maple.

thanks

Try Woodfinder.com. I pay about $6.95 to $7.50 per bd. ft. for it here locally.

Most places should carry Purple Heart. If you don’t mind paying a premium, you could buy it at Rockler. I get most of my lumber at walllumber.com. It looks like they have it for $4.75/bd ft for 4/4.

There are several places around me in St. Louis, that sell Purple Heart, though I haven’t bought any since last summer. It’s not cheap, and I usually only use it in smaller pieces, rarely do big pieces go into my projects.
