Hello Everyone,

Ordered the Rikon 10-325 today. I had not heard anything from my last post about tension issues, so
I decided to bite the bullet and go for it, Woodcraft was the choice and as always they are good to deal
with. I decided on the $745 + $75 S+H = $825 13” resaw Vs. The Steel City 14” Delux for $845 12” resaw.

The cast iron riser block and one less inch of resaw were the deciding factors plus normally the Rikon sells for more so I thought that this was a good deal. However I really did like the built in moble castors on the Steel City, I’ll just have to add my own. Well I now have a bandsaw like the Big Dawgs or littler Dawgs if you own a 17” or above. Now to order my Woodslicer and cut some wood for real.

Thanks for all the help and comments.

You obviously deal with a woodcraft different than mine you have to practically beg mine to sell you something and almost hit them to get them to stop triing to sell you something you are not interested in. I have driven 1hour 15minutes each way twice to make purchases that I called ahead on both times and both times a hassle.
The first I called for a steel city band saw they told me it was sitting right there and the guy told me he had one and loved It. I get there they don’t have it they don’t have an employee that owns one and don’t normally stock it. I bought a jet with less features for more money. The things that really got me is
1)They said they would gladly order me one but would not just have it shipped to me.
2)The “manager” wouldn’t stop telling me how he wished he knew who it was I talked to long enough to talk to me about anything else
3)He said he would sell it to me for the same price as the steel city then tried to charge me for a fence which the steel city had
4)charged me for a mobile base which the steel city had
5)told me that ball bearing guides that the steel city had wern’t that great and blocks where better (on my second trip they tried to sell me an upgrade for another $150 0r so)
6)I didn’t get the work light that came with the steel city either
7)It was the floor model and missing 2 bolts several bolts where loose and had scratchs marks and the motor was miss alighned

I hope I soon hear a bunch of stories about how peoples steel city band saws are junk and broken and my jet is still running great….j/k but not really I hope you guys tools don’t break

second trip I called about a Jet 1014 mini lathe yes we have 2 one on the floor and one in back great I am coming up on Sat. to see your bandsaw demo I will pick it up then. I bring a friend who made several purchases he would have normally made at rockler,a shopping list from my nieghbor, and show up45min before the demo
1)I find a salesperson not busy and tell him I would like to buy a Jet 1014 he says he is setting up for the demo I say no problem I’ll get someone else to help me, He says ok then looks it up tells me he has itwalks me to another guy talking to a friend, tells the other guy what I want the guy loudly says lathe its bands saws!

2)I bite my touge and say I already bought one from you I would like to buy a Jet 1014 and have a question about dust collection I stand there for another five minutes while he talks to his friend, then he goes to the back and checks to see if they have the lathe comes back and says yes? didn’t I say I wanted to buy it? as I ask him about dust collection he stares at his watch. Then a sales lady comes over and ask him if he is going to lunch. I ask him about fittings the watch again, confused answer, pee pee dance, not listening to me,or what I want, could careless what I am saying…. I let him of the hook go to lunch we,re going to watch the demo What pro buisness/sales person thinks they get lunch while they are having an event to draw customers to there store I would have eaten early or gone with out its time to sell keep the buisiness going

3) I immediatly walk to the next person (the lady from earlier)available and say I would like to buy the jet 1014 you have in the back (given my previous experience with there floor model no thank you) she seems very uninterested in getting it or selling it to me then offers to put a note on it until the demo is over as it has started now. I say fine with what little tounge I have left I think I just swallowed half and am keeping my mouth shut to keep the blood of there over priced turning blanks

started it was basically how to set up a Jet 18” band saw and why that one was the greatest. He also told us he wasn’t going to cut any thing. The mailer showed a heart shaped band saw box why didn’t I just go with my instinct and order offline or buy in Atl I was there yesterday. OK I listened for about 5 minutes until after reading 2 page set up on mine in 30 sec., seeing david marks/ mark Spagnnnooooliiiaaaa? woodwhisperer show with demonstrations (edited down to 10 min and correct information), and reading The Band saw book. I realized there was nothing to learn here Especially after hearring some dissinformation and then finally when asked about blade. He said he was not sure. I liked this guy very much H e was the first guy I talked to and I talked to him later about turning chisels honest and straight up. AND HIM GOING ON AND ON ABOUT HOW MUCH BETTER BALL BEARING GUIDES AREI began looking around for other things on my list and things not. about 5 minutes after that my friend came walking up and said that is ste same stuff you showed me in 2 minutes when I asked you how you about bandsaw ( while I was talking I tunned his guides probably 7min).

4)I find another sales person not busy (Its the same guy I bought the band saw from). He goes and actually getts the lathe wwwwwwooooooooooooowwwwwwww! he imediately walks to the computer and yells PHONE NUMBER I say I am not sure of the number my acount is under but it is either xxxxxxxx or xxxxxxx name. PHONE NUMBER. I don’t know but I bought a jet bandsaw from you here 3 months ago under xxxxxx or xxxxxxxxxxx name. 5min OH I misspelled your name.Well I need to buy a card scraper and need some help with dust collection fittings before I go but you can check him out before you help me (poor guy had been standing there for 5 min with his stuff on the counter) 3 other sales people are just milling around. so i WAIT.

5)The lady I spoke with earlier the one with the note says OH jet I put the note on a Rikon I better go get that off and immediatly runs to the back
We go down and look its not the same model so I tell him and we go back up He’s standing there as I look and I say I wonder if this will fit? I then get a huge attitude and snappy responce of “I don’t know what every tool in the world is. I believe the blood in my mouth has to much preasure as I reasure him that I know he does not know what every tool in the world is.

6)I get most of the information on the dust collection I needed rather quickly. Then I asked as a side note because I had forgotten to measure my miter saw before I came “do you know what size hose I need for a Dewalt slide miter I forgot to measure? if you don’t I’ll just get it later.” His responce was fine we have one in the shop lets see. great

7)I go to check out it takes 15 min. from the time I hit the counter till I hit the door.

8) The guy at the couter keeps offering to help us with a 60# package while the guy that finally got it is going ape ** because they took a shop fan/filter back that sounded like it was gona blow and he found a wood chip in it or something. my friend had already told him 3 times we could handle it help the other customers.

9)as soon as I walk out the door I am think maybe I have bad carma when my friend a very cool headed retired gentleman says to me every time I come here it is like that you have to beg them to buy something you want and yell at them to stop triing to sell you something you don’t

If I buy from woodcraft big if I will drive right past my closest store another 45min and give them a try or go the othe way to ATL. I have now made 2 trips for totalls of $750 plus each and brought customers that would have spent there money elsewhere each time and left in a bad mood and feeling as though I had wasted my time and money.

I guess this should have been under the rant forum or maybe blog or review. sorry for putting it in your post the wood craft thing just set me off bottled feeling kill I’m gonna go out to my shed and look at my pretty wood pile to lower the blood preasure

before someone else does she does not seem interested in going and getting it for me but will be glad to put a note on it for me. ok WHATEVER. The demo starts

Neodon Goodluck with your new purchase Jm540 Mate I hope you don,t own a gun. As you said you wanted to BUY something, not just kick tyres, then I for one would have you in an easy chair and be offering you coffee while you wait for me to get exactly what you want! Are any of their staff actually woodworkers or have any interset in woodworking? I,m impressed with your patience.

NeoDon… You won’t reget buying this saw. I think it’s hilarious that you used this title for this purchase, when I bought mine, I titled it the same way. I couldn’t get over spending that much- until I got the saw. Then, the memories and all that pain that my wallet was in quickly faded away and I realized that I had made the right decision. You will too.

You’ll get so much use out of it, that it’ll be scary. Remember that when you get it, throw the junk blade that comes with it away and buy a decent blade. I use Timberwolf blades. Some others here use the WoodSlicer by Highland hardware. I think whichever you use, they will do a good job.

Like Steve says get a good blade and don’t even install the one that comes with it. I use the Woodslicer and I have heard good things about the Timberwolf blades.

I thank you guys for your reassurance with my purchase, and I look forward to using it asap.
Here’s the deal, I am short on cash now and will be cutting some thick wood for the legs on
a new vanity I’m making for the bath remodel I’m doing. I heard in a few reviews that the blade
that comes on the Rikon is not bad at all? I know I will be buying a Woodslicer for re-sawing, but should i buy a Olsen, Timberwolf, of a different Woodslicer for general cutting of wood? I don’t think I want to use the
wood slicer “re-saw” blade for anything other than that task. Any help would be appreciated here,
I really would like to get away with cutting the curved legs with the stock blade if I can?

Bills Bills Bills, or I would buy them all!
