Topic tags/keywords: band saw bandsaw grizzly dust collection

I plan on hooking up my Grizzly 17” band saw to my Oneida cyclone using expandable dust right hose. I am using a quick disconnect because the hose will share duties between the table saw and the band saw. I can’t run hard pipe to the band saw and I can only connect to one 4” port because of the orientation of the lower port away from the dust collection system. I am wondering if using the top port alone will be sufficient. This beast creates a dust storm of epic proportion.

A mini gloat: found a local guy who sold me 6 carbon blades including a 1” 2 tpi resaw blade for 50 bucks! They are mostly brand new and from a local reputable blade shop. I’m HAPPY! The mobile base doesn’t allow the lower door to open completely so I think installing the 1” blade will be iffy. I may look for a different mobile base that doesn’t have that issue or build one with the nice casters from the shopfox base.

:). Tom

Just figured out the door comes off the hinges quite easily so installing the one inch blade won’t be a problem. The shopfox base leaves a bit to be desired due to wobble. I may build a subframe for it with 2×4s and bolt it down to the subframe. I did make the frame larger than the footprint for more stability.

Blade tension is still a work in progress. The numbered tension scale is pretty generic so I need to take some notes on my various blades when I find the tension sweet spot. I am very happy with the band saw so far. It is such an improvement over old faithful Delta 14” that I replaced. :)

You should be ok with only using the upper dust port. My older Grizzly 20” bandsaw has only one and dust does collect in the bottom right of the cabinet, just have to remember to clean it out periodically.
