Topic tags/keywords: question bandsaw deal used

I’ve been wanting a bandsaw for a while and should have bought one long ago…

Local Craigslist sale of a Jet 14” JWBS-14CS stock# 708705 (older blue model) with mobile base.
Doesn’t appear to have a fence or the riser that adds to the cutting height (if that is even an option on this one).
$250

I’ve seen these go for at least $400 used. Can I pass it up at $250??

Mobile bases seem to be worth at least $75. Maybe not the best bandsaw brand but what I’ve read is that it is good enough. We can speculate on what condition it may be in but it’s claimed to be in good condition, it looks like it’s been kept well, and I will of course ask to see it run before handing over cash.

I know everyone likes the Grizzly but that one is definitely not an option for a while…
Maybe I could even get a little use out of this one and flip it for $100 – $150 more and get closer to that Grizzly.

Price seems to be good. Jet is a good band saw. Riser kits are available if you decide you want one. Fences are available also.

Three yrs ago I bought a Jet 14”. I think it was about 10 yrs old at the time. I have had absolutely no problems. I paid $350 for mine with a mobile base, and carter guides. It was a great investment. You can get a riser block, and Carter makes a first rate fence. Therre aren’t a whole lot of differences in design between the new ones and the older models, so the old ones can really be dessed up with aftermarket improvements. If it runs smoothly, I’d take the chance. The difference between nbot having a band saw and having a band saw if far greater than the difference between a great bandsaw and a mediocre one.

That’s a pretty fair price assuming good motor and flat table. It looks like almost all the parts still look to be available at ereplacementparts.com so that’s a real plus for an older unit. I have a similar base under my 17” Delta drill press—rock solid. Coincidentally there is a Powermatic riser block kit posted for sale on Sawmillcreek.org this morning for $50 + half of shipping—different color but that is a great price (the Harbor Freight or Grizzly kit should fit as well).

I’d want to go see it ready to buy—and pretty quick. The ad didn’t say “won’t last long at this price”, but for once it should have.

Thanks for all the info, everyone. I contacted the seller and I’m just waiting for a response. Hope I snag it before anyone else.

That should be fine. The price seems reasonable as long the band saw runs smoothly and you don’t need to worry with minor / major damages on some parts of it. Do you have any updates?
