I am designing an entertainment center and I want to include a lift similar to the old beta machines to raise the hidden blue-ray player.

Anyone have a design for that, or know what hardware i would need?

try a search for lift hardware. All sorts of lifts come up from commercial forklifts to tv lifts to door lifts.
