This is my first time using Waterlox original finish. I know how to apply it but am wondering what the final finish should look like. Should it be smooth like hand rubbed lacquer or should it have some orange peal effect.

Usually looks very shiny and smooth to me, almost as much as wipe-on poly after a few coats. I wipe it on with a rag.

Smooth and pretty high luster. Not hand-rubbed lacquer shiny, but a bit shinier than semi-gloss.

Definitely NOT an “orange peel effect”!

thanks for the help guys. I think I know where I went wrong. This was a test run so It will be OK when I do my dinning table
