So, I’ve tried some searches, but can’t seem to find what I’m looking for..

I’m make a bosal shaper for a friend, and am just looking at whether it’ll need some sort of finish.. Just a simple maple one, but it’s a interaction with the rawhide I’m wondering about. What would be a finish that would not react with the rawhide (and by extension the horse), at all? Last thing I would want to cause is an irritant to the horses face..

Thanks in advance for any ideas..

I have made several hackamore shapers for my own use and have left them unfinished. Any film finish will work as long as it is fully cured before using the shaper.

Leave it unfinished or put some beeswax on it.

That’s two starting with the word unfinished in the first line.. I’ll stick with that I think. Thanks everyone.
