My delta 14” bandsaw model 28275 seems to be having a problem with the lower bearing. Is jamming up and won’t budge! I have to force it backwards to get it to move. Won’t start turning on its own. Anyone know how hard it is to change the lower bearing and should I replace the shaft too?

Are you talking about the lower wheel bearings, or thrust bearing?

Thelower thrust bearing that the blade hits when you cut wood? Or the lower wheel bearing? The thrust hearing comes off easily and you shouldn’t need to replace any part of the blade guide assembly. The wheel has two bearings and they are slightly less easy to replace but very doable. You can get both way cheaper from a bearing shop than from Delta.

Lower wheel bearings are super easy to replace.. upper wheel bearings are actually a bit harder. Thrust bearings are a snap. Hopefully you didn’t damage the shaft.. but if left like that for any length of time, it will be.

This link has a PDF at bottom that shows how to remove thrust bearings.
