I need some advice from you LJ experts. I found a Stanley NO. 7 and was able to pick it up for $10 because the lateral adjustment is busted off the frog. I want to find a replacement on ebay or somewhere else but I don’t want to get the something that won’t fit. I can’t see any markings on the body of the plane besides the ‘NO. 7’ on the heel. The back of the frog is rounded so I THINK it is a type 4 or 5 but I’m not positive. The main thing that is throwing me off is that the cutter has a late marking as you can see in the pictures.

What do you guys think?

Check with Eric over at nhplaneparts.com.

He might have a #5-1/2, or a #6 or even a #7 frog you might get to work. Email a photo of the frog you need, too.

Hey Bandit, I can’t get that URL to work. Can anyone else get it to pull up?

That iron is not original to the plane. The iron is way newer.

It looks to me like your plane is between a Type 5 (when lateral adjusters were introduced) to Type 9 (the last type before the frog adjustment screw was added). If you check over at rexmill.com, you could probably narrow it down further, just to make sure you get the right vintage. Of course, if you’re only concerned with functionality, any frog (size appropriate) from type 5-type 9 will work. Liek Shane said, the iron was replaced at some point.

The nhplaneparts.com is on Ebay. Eric has a store there.

Looks like he has a type 6A frog for a #6 or #7 plane @ $11.95
