I am looking into making my own guitar binding and possibly purfling while I work on this guitar project. The problem is, this need to be about 5-7 feet long, and with the mistakes I know I’ll make, I’ll most likely need at least twice as much. This stuff needs to be 1/16” thick and for the binding around 3/8” wide, purfling about 5/16” wide. My thought is to make a sled with a dado in it, put the strip in and plane the wood down by hand. The problem comes in because it needs to be very consistent on the bonding side. If there is much difference in thickness it will eventually show when the glue dries and the wood acclimates to the surrounding. -- Improvise.... Adapt...... Overcome! |
